Life insurance for Florida families

Life insurance makes sure the people who count on you are taken care of. I'll help you figure out how much coverage makes sense and compare options that fit your budget.

Types of life insurance

Each type works a little differently. Here's the plain-English version, and I'll help you compare the ones that fit your goals.

Term life

Coverage for a set number of years, like 10, 20 or 30. Usually the most coverage for the lowest price. A good fit while you're raising kids or paying off a home. If the term ends, coverage stops, though some policies can be renewed or converted.

Whole life

Coverage that lasts your whole life as long as premiums are paid. Premiums are generally set when you buy, and the policy builds cash value that grows over time. Costs more than term for the same amount of coverage.

Universal life

Permanent coverage with more flexibility. Within limits, you may be able to adjust your premium payments and death benefit as your needs change. It also builds cash value.

Indexed universal life (IUL)

A type of universal life where cash value growth is linked in part to a stock market index, usually with limits on both gains and losses. It isn't a direct investment in the market, and projected values aren't guaranteed.

Final expense

A smaller whole life policy meant to cover funeral costs and final bills, so your family isn't left with them. Often simpler to qualify for, and designed with older adults in mind.

Hybrid life and long-term care

Life insurance with a long-term care benefit. If you need qualifying care, you can use part of the policy to help pay for it. If you don't, your family receives the death benefit. Learn about long-term care insurance.

Life insurance questions, answered

How much life insurance do I need?

A common starting point is enough to replace your income for the years your family would need it, plus your mortgage and other debts. We'll work out a number together.

Can I get coverage if I'm over 60?

Often, yes. Options and prices depend on your age and health. Final expense policies are designed with older adults in mind.

Will I need a medical exam?

Not always. Some policies don't require an exam, depending on your age, health and the amount of coverage.

What's the difference between whole life and universal life?

Both are permanent coverage that builds cash value. Whole life generally has set premiums and more guarantees. Universal life offers more flexibility in premiums and coverage, and indexed universal life links cash value growth in part to a market index. I'll walk you through how each one works before you decide.
